The Study in China Experience programme offers an exciting opportunity for University of Edinburgh (UoE) students and those studying at the Confucius Institute for Scotland to visit China and immerse themselves in its rich culture, history, and stunning landscapes while learning and practicing Chinese in real-life situations. This wonderful experience will take place during the spring break in 2025. The programme is organized by the Confucius Institute for Scotland and delivered by our long term partner, Fudan University in Shanghai. We are thrilled to announce that the Confucius Institute for Scotland is offering up to 18 sponsorships for the Study in China Experience 2025 and applications are now open.

ACTIVITY DATES

7th to 18th April 2025 (inclusive of travel time)

SCHEDULE

Successful candidates will participate in one week of Chinese lessons and cultural activities at Fudan University in Shanghai, followed by a week visiting innovative enterprises in Hangzhou and Shanghai.

ELIGIBILITY

Requirements are as follows:

  1. Participants must have sat an HSK Test;
  2. Participants must not have previously taken part in organised visits to China funded by “Chinese Bridge Camp” Exchange Programme during the past three years;
  3. Participants must be full time students at the University of Edinburgh or be a registered student at the Confucius Institute for Scotland;
  4. Participants must be aged between 14 and 30.

COSTS

The sponsorship will cover all relevant expenses in China, including：

  1. Accommodation in China
  2. Transport within China
  3. Chinese language lessons
  4. Cultural experience activities (such as Chinese calligraphy, tie-dye, brush painting workshops for example)
  5. Meals within China
  6. Cultural excursions and city tours

Participants are responsible for:

  1. International travelling expenses
  2. Chinese visa application fees
  3. International Insurance
  4. Extra individual expenses excluding those listed above (some spending money for example)

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Your name and D.O.B
  2. HSK certificate is required. If you have not taken any HSK exam before, we recommend you take the HSK on 9th March; visit HERE to register. The registration deadline is on 27th January.
  3. Your student information (such as your study status, student number, type or programme you are currently studying on.)

All applications will be considered on a first come first served basis.
