Chinese Language Class - Elementary 3

Course Summary

This course is the continuation of Elementary 2. The development of listening and speaking skills will continue to be a focus. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced and students will be able to engage in conversations in Chinese more effectively and confidently. Teachers will give more guidance and assistance to help students recognise and write Chinese characters.

  • Vocabulary building and conversation/ short paragraph construction related to topics covered in the textbook;
  • Resultative complement;
  • + 着 to indicate the static aspect of an ongoing action;
  • Directional complement;
  • Potential complement;
  • A summary of various types of complements learnt so far

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Book tickets in Chinese;
  • Describe a traffic accident;
  • Talk about housing and renting issues;
  • Talk about recreational and sports activities;
  • Give a narrative with more details;
  • Make complaints and express dissatisfaction;
  • Make suggestions

Teaching Methods

The course is tutorial based with a combination of joint class activities and group work. Supplementary material is prepared by the teacher. To benefit fully from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, students are strongly encouraged to spend at least 1-2 hours to revise each class.
