Chinese Language Class - Beginners 2

Course Summary

This course is the continuation of Beginners 1. It will continue to introduce basic and simple sentence structures. Students will learn more measure words and attributive adjectives, both of which can enable students to compose longer sentences. With the learning of expressions regarding calendar and clock times, students will be able to state more details regarding everyday life in conversations. There will be ongoing work to encourage student to recognise and write Chinese characters.

Learning Contents

  • Measure words;
  • Demonstrative pronouns + nouns;
  • Vocabulary and expressions regarding asking for permission and expressing requests;
  • Vocabulary and expressions regarding shopping and ordering food;
  • Vocabulary and expressions regarding one’s hobbies;
  • Vocabulary and expressions regarding phone conversations

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Handle simple conversations in settings such as shopping, dining at restaurants, making appointments over the phone;
  • Talk about one’s abilities, hobbies and wishes;
  • State information regarding times and locations

Teaching Methods

The course is tutorial based with a combination of joint class activities and group work. Supplementary material is prepared by the teacher. To benefit fully from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, students are strongly encouraged to spend at least 1-2 hours revising each class.
