Olivia Gray: Olivia is a cellist and ethnomusicologist who took up the erhu and joined the Edinburgh Chinese Community Orchestra in 2009, as part of her master’s degree research. She was welcomed by this friendly group of musicians and continues to play the erhu with them. She plays the cello with several chamber music ensembles and is excited to be playing in this group combining cello with traditional Chinese instruments.
Janelle Lau: having played the pipa for over 15 years, Janelle has a great passion in traditional Chinese music and Chinese orchestral music. Originally from Hong Kong, Janelle now resides in Edinburgh. Janelle is currently pursuing a masters degree in Music Therapy after graduating at the University of Edinburgh with a Music degree.
Chenhao Wang: originally from Shanghai, taught by the well-known erhu master Ling Huang, Chenhao has been playing the erhu since the age of four. He joined the Edinburgh Chinese Community Orchestra in 2017, becoming a key member and performing regularly in and around Scotland.
MeiMei (Yanmei Wu) holds a MMus Performance from SOAS, University of London. She performs the zheng (21 stringed Chinese zither) and Chinese kunqu Opera. She is the founder of Chinese Opera Association, Scotland, and co-founder of the Chinese music ensemble Harmony.
