The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节 – Zhōngqiū Jié) is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. The festival falls on 21st September this year.
About 1300 years ago, Li Bai, a famous Chinese poet acclaimed from his own day to the present as a genius and a romantic figure who took traditional poetic forms to new heights used four lines of five characters to express his homesickness at the Mid-Autumn Festival.
静 夜 思 (Jìng Yè Sī) – Thoughts in the Silent Night
床 前 明 月 光,(Chuáng qián míng yuè guāng)
疑 是 地 上 霜。(Yí shì dì shàng shuāng)
举 头 望 明 月,(Jǔ tóu wàng míng yuè)
低 头 思 故 乡。(Dī tóu sī gù xiāng)
Moonlight shining through the window
Makes me wonder if there is frost on the ground
Looking up to see the moon
Looking down I miss my hometown
