Course Summary
This course is a continuation of Intermediate 2. Students are now at lower intermediate level and have developed good autonomous learning skills. The textbook for this course is topic based and students are encouraged to not only master the new grammar and words but also to actively use as wide a rage of vocabulary and structures as possible to express their thoughts. Teachers will continue to guide students in the development of their listening and speaking skills and also encourage them to rely less on pinyin. More emphasis will be attached to the recognition and writing of characters.
Learning Contents
- Vocabulary building and conversation/ short paragraph construction related to topics covered in the textbook;
- Terms of popular sports in various countries and regions;
- Rhetorical questions (难道…;不是吗?能不…吗?);
- To use了(liăo) and 着(zháo) as potential complements;
- Reduplication of verbs;
- Numerical phrases and fractions
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Engage in conversations related to sports and hobbies;
- Talk about travel;
- Communicate through letters/emails in Chinese;
- Compare life and environment in China with that of other countries;
- Study more autonomously beyond class
Teaching Methods
The course is tutorial based with a combination of joint class activities and group work. Supplementary material is prepared by the teacher. To benefit fully from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, students are strongly encouraged to spend at least 1-2 hours to revise each class.
