The Digital Silk Road: Origins and Destinations
Henry Tillman, Founder and Chairman, China Investment Research

A unique session, never before run at the University of Edinburgh, will welcome students as they join our third international conference on the Belt and Road Initiative. A rare opportunity to engage with the Chairman and Founder of China Investment Research Mr Henry Tillman as he guides the group through an introduction to the origins, historical developments and possible future directions of the Digital Silk Road – a key component of the BRI since 2017. Starting with the original ‘One Belt, One Road’ map published by Xinhua in 2013 the group will explore the origins of this project and the existing 6 economic corridors, highlighting recent changes and developments along the way before taking a glimpse at the effects of Russia’s LNG-propelled rise on the Polar Silk Road. The students will gain a greater understanding of the construction of this Digital Silk Road and have access to real data on investments made in the construction of BRI tech hubs before finally considering the role of the wider BRI in future digitisation
