Venue
The magnificent McEwan Hall will play a significant role as the setting for this adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The hall, which predates Edinburgh’s Usher Hall imitates a Greek theatre with tiers of galleries and a half domed ceiling. The magnificent paintings around the dome and the archways represent figures from the Arts and Sciences.
The innovative technology deployed in this production will bring the hall, and some of these figures, to life, in a way never seen before.
The hall, which was designed by Sir Robert Rowland Anderson in 1874 serves as the University of Edinburgh’s graduation hall. Funded by Sir William McEwan, founder of the well known brewery of that name, and MP for Central Edinburgh, Sir William was a connoisseur of art and a noted philanthropist.
