Emerge from nothing: the development of Chinese cities through the eyes of an architect.
Dr. Liu Li received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Tsinghua University, a top university in China. He became a lecturer before studying for a PhD degree in the Department of Architecture in University of Edinburgh in 1991. After graduation, he went back to China to build his design firm and won the reputation as one of the leading architectural designers in China. As the chief architect, he has been an influential participant shaping Chinese urban development in the past decade having designed over 200 projects including hotels, shopping centres, residential compounds and new cities.
In this talk, Dr. Liu Li will take you on a personal journey charting the development of Chinese cities over the past few decades. By sharing with his audience his own story of how he built his architecture design firm, he will reveal the business dealings of government agencies, private clients and state owned enterprises; the business strategies and models that real estate developers employed; how state of art technologies are used in the Chinese building industry, and how a new city was built from scratch. You will see the huge changes that happened in Chinese cities, and at same time, the intricate details of the journey will be revealed.
