SUMMARY:China: A Photographic Portrait, 2008
DESCRIPTION:This ground breaking and hugely popular exhibition from the Guandong Museum of Art, ran at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh for ten weeks in summer 2008 and was seen by over 11,000 visitors.\nAround 600 vivid, controversial and thought-provoking images covering 1951-2003 prompted rave reviews from the public and press.\n“enlightening and very moving”\n“best photographic exhibition I have ever seen”\n“excellent… makes people think…”\n“Modern China is a place of immense wealth and absolute poverty, a fact which has been captured beautifully by this massive, enthralling exhibition of hundreds of photographs”\nAlso running alongside the exhibition was a collection of 33 short films specially commissioned for China Now which provided additional insights into the cultural and social life of a country which is home to a fifth of the world’s population. With support from the Scottish Government a series of lunchtime lectures on varying aspects of Chinese culture ran over the ten weeks and a programme for families and schools was also organised.\n \n
