SUMMARY:Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节), also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is the second most important traditional Festival celebrated in China, next only to the Lunar New Year (春节). With a history spanning over three thousand years, this Festival takes place on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar on the night of a full moon. Chinese people believe that the moon is at its brightest and largest on this day, which coincides with the harvest season. It’s a time for family reunions in China. People gather for dinners, worship the moon, light paper lanterns, and eat mooncakes. This year, the Festival falls on Saturday, 10 September.\nJoin us at Abden House when the Confucius Institute for Scotland hosts its garden party, followed by a concert to celebrate this year’s Mid-Autumn festival.\nOur fun-filled programs for the Garden Party include:\nPlay the age-old Chinese game of “Pitch-pot” – shooting arrows into the container!\nTake a quiz on China – test your knowledge of Chinese culture and language!\nMake your own paper-cuttings – follow our simple instructions and get creative with different patterns!\nWrite your Mid-Autumn Festival greetings with Chinese calligraphy – 中秋节快乐！ (Zhōnɡqiūjié kuàilè, Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!)\nYou will discover more about the Mid-Autumn Festival while enjoying mooncakes, the festival food and snacks.
