17 Aug: Dragon Boat Festival

Broughty Ferry Harbour is the location for Tayside Chinese Community Centre`s Dragon Boat Festival. Along with a festive atmosphere, live music and stalls, the highlight of the day will be the Dragon Boat racing.

11-15 Aug: Chinese Art on your doorstep

The Burrell Collection will host a one-week free activity programme for both adults and children specifically linked to the celebration of China and the Olympic games.

28 Aug: Culture/Subculture: China Music Now

Kimho Ip is a renowned composer, performer and intercultural artist from Hong Kong, who has received numerous awards and whose compositions have been performed in the UK and China. Drawing on his practical and theoretical expertise Kimho will present a vivid picture of the changing nature of the contemporary Chinese music scene with many audio-visual examples.

This is the fifth talk in the lunchtime lecture series at Edinburgh`s City Art Centre where China: A Photographic Portrait is running until 14 September.

This talk starts at 1.30 on Thursday 28 August and last for around one hour. Admission to the talk is included in the price of an exhibition ticket. To book a seat in advance please call 0131 529 3963/2

29 July: The Real Thing: Contemporary Art from China

Arranged by the Confucius Institute for Scotland this lunchtime lecture is offered as part of the documentary photography exhibition China: A Photographic Portrait running at Edinburgh`s City Art Centre.

Simon Groom, Director of Modern and Contemporary Art at National Galleries of Scotland will give an illustrated talk about the weird, wild and often unbelievable world of contemporary art in China.
