Weekend Calligraphy Course 18/19 May
Join Institute calligraphy/brush painting teacher Chi Zhang for a special weekend workshop at Leith School of Art.
Over the weekend Chi Zhang will introduce students to key principles in Chinese art.
Beginning with a talk about the history of Chinese calligraphy, students will be shown the basic techniques of controlling the brush to draw single lines and simple characters. At the end of the first day, students will be shown how to make a traditional Chinese seal or stamp. On the second day of the workshop, students will learn about Chinese brush painting – an ink and wash technique. They will use this to create finished pieces working from a variety of subjects.

SCA Glasgow Events 2012-13
The Glasgow branch of the Scotland China Association meets regularly at Garnethill Multicultural Centre, 21 Rose St, Glasgow, G3 6RE. All talks are open free to members of SCA with a £1.50 (£1) charge for non-members.

Jim will speak about Chiang Yee`s book written when he visited Scotland in the 1930`s and 40`s. Originally published in 1948 the Victoria and Albert Museum will this autumn hold an exhibition on Chiang Yee`s work

China Debate 21 March 2013
As China and the world grapple with the emergence of the world`s soon to be largest economy this debate, initiated by SCEN, will take stock of where China is and where it might get to. This question is key to those with a serious interest in international politics and economics, and China.
This free event will be introduced by Stephen Perry, Chairman of the 48 Group Club (The Icebreakers) and MD London Export Corporation. In his introduction he will focus on the topic `Can China Complete its Rise? The Challenges`
Chair of the event is Professor Steve Chapman FRSE FRSC, Principal of Heriot-Watt University who will be supported by Keith Bennet, Chairman of the Awards Committee of the 48 Group Club and Deputy Chairman of the Global Group.

Chinese Community Orchestra Concert 17 Mar
Head to Kirkcaldy`s Adam Smith Theatre for a Spring into Summer concert featuring Alison Miler on violin. This programme will see Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society share the stage with the Chinese Community Orchestra in a programme of music celebrating the changing seasons.
The wosrks to be played will include `Spring` and `Summer` from `The Four Seasons` by Vivaldi; `A Symphony of Seasons` by John Gourlay; `Voices of Spring` by Strauss; and Three Chinese Pieces by Michael Short which will be a combined performance by both groups of musicians.
The programme, will begin at 3pm on Sunday 17th March 2013 at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy. Tickets priced at £6 (adult) and £4 (child)are available from the Theatre Tel 01592 583302 or from members of the orchestra.
