Using a Chinese Brush

The Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools (CISS) is based within the University of Strathclyde’s Scottish Centre for International Language Teaching. CISS has set up and supports a number of Confucius Classroom Hubs where there is a focus on provision of resources for use in the school, its feeder primaries and wider local community.

CISS also offers non Confucius Classsroom school staff the opportunity to take part in a professional learning programme. You can read about this on the CISS website or download a PDF Programme for 2014-15.

In addition to the Confucius Classroom Hub schools, other state schools are introducing the study of China and Chinese though examination classes. These generally are only offered where a GTC teacher of Chinese is in post. However schools can offer their students the option to sit the globally run HSK test administered by our Institute which enables students to start to assess their capability after only 40 hours of study.

A number of public schools also offer students the chance to study Chinese through to national examination level.

There are also Chinese Community Schools which operate mainly at weekends. Please visit their individual websites for up to date information using the links below.
