China Experience- Building Relations; Building Infrastructure

Peter Budd is leader of Arup’s airport business globally, a Director of Ove Arup & Partners Ltd and Chairman of Arup Scotland.

Peter has had extensive experience of working in China; his first projects where constructed in the early 1980’s in Shanghai and Dalian.  Arup now has offices in Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wuhan and Hong Kong. Over a quarter of Arup’s 10,000 staff worldwide is resident in China and Arup has undertaken over 600 projects on the mainland.  Projects include the design of the Olympic stadium, the Olympic Aquatic Centre, Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital International Airport and new headquarters building for CCTV in Beijing.

With strong links to China, Peter is Vice Chairman of China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) which supports the development of Sino-British trade. Peter is a Fellow of the 48 Group Club, an independent business network committed to promoting positive relations with China.

Peter is a member of the University Court of the University of Edinburgh and sits on the Board of Governors’ at Manchester Metropolitan University. He is also a Board member and trustee of Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).
