Chinese 2 - Code K3315

This term's class is Chinese 2.3. Students should have completed either Chinese 2.2 or acquired equivalent (approx 130 taught hours). The class will run on a Wednesday evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

This course enables beginners, who have established basic foundations in learning Chinese, to further develop the four language skills. By the end of the course students should be able to grasp more grammatical concepts and sentence structures, which will enable them to communicate in more routine or particular situations, such as buying clothes, bargaining, taking a bus, etc.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Understand frequently used sentences and expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance.
  • Communicate more freely in particular social activities, such as taking a bus, posting a parcel
  • Describe one’s thoughts and needs more clearly while interacting with people

Teaching method

The course is tutorial based with a combination of whole class activity and group work. Students will be provided with written and audio materials as learning aids.

In order to fully benefit from the course and to achieve the learning outcomes, you will need to devote 1-2 hours out with classes to revision and homework

While the emphasis remains on developing practical listening and speaking capability this year will see students begin to learn to recognise characters. Students will also learn character stroke orders and have the opportunity to write characters.
