Through the University of Edinburgh we can offer access to a wide range of expertise in specific sectors in China while within our Institute we have an varied library which offers a range of materials in both English and Chinese.
Library stock includes contemporary and classic fiction, books on Chinese art, architecture, business, cuisine, politics, religions, etc. as well as sub-titled Chinese DVDs and an extensive collection of learning materials.
Annual membership of the Institute allows borrowing rights from our library. Individual membership cost £25 for one year with a concessionary rate of only £10.
The library is normally open:
Mon 10am-5pm | Tues 10am-5pm | Wed 1pm-5pm | Thurs 1pm-5pm | Fri 10am-5pm
We recommend phoning in advance of a visit as this room also is used for meetings.
The library also holds a special collection of English language books ‘The Scotland/China Collection’ which has been personally donated by Graham Thompson and other friends of the Institute. This varied collection provides a wide array of information on the many diplomats, officials, traders, scientists, missionaries and travellers who have forged Scotland’s links with China for over 200 years.
A further additional resource is the University of Edinburgh’s China Info Scotland portal website. This provides contacts and basic practical information on China’s business environment, including information on resources and services in Scotland supporting business enterprises, as well as information on job fairs and tips on business culture and etiquette.
Our links page will also provide you with a range of useful contacts.
