Our first landmark BRI conference was held in October 2017, with Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown delivered an impressive keynote address\u00a0and set the geo-political context of BRI for almost 200 delegates. <\/span><\/p>\n

The past two years\u2019 conferences have attracted over 60 expert speakers from Asia, the UK and Europe. This year, we will also have speaker from Africa attending for the first time. <\/span><\/p>\n

This year marks the 3rd year of the Belt and Road Initiative Conference organised by the Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh. It will be a great opportunity to hear a range of international insights into the Belt & Road Initiative. This year\u2019s conference has a panel format with topics covering governance, economics, environment, data, law, China Africa relationship and sustainable textile.<\/span><\/p>\n

Organised by the Confucius Institute for Scotland, the BRI Conference have had received generous support from organisations and partners we have worked very closely with, such as China Britain Business Council, the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation,\u00a0the Department for International Trade (DIT), the World Alliance for Low Carbon Cities and Arup.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0no doubt that academic, business and governmental understanding between China and Scotland around BRI have improved markedly as a consequence of the BRI conference,<\/span><\/i>\u201d says Professor Natascha Gentz, Assistant Principal (China) and Director of the Confucius Institute for Scotland. \u201cwe are planning to ensure that Belt and Road is firmly on the agenda for Scottish organisations who wish to play a part and benefit from its reach.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Venue<\/span><\/h5>\n

This year\u2019s conference will be held in one of Edinburgh\u2019s iconic historical buildings \u2013 the McEwan Hall in the University of Edinburgh.
