Biography
Chi Zhang, an Edinburgh based Chinese Calligraphy/Brush Painting artist, has been teaching in the institute since early 2008. He also works with the institute to deliver Chinese Calligraphy workshops to schools and communities. Chi graduated with a BA in Graphic Design from Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication in 2004 befor taking his MSc degree in Media Art & Imaging at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee University in 2005.
Chi started to practice Chinese calligraphy when he was 5 years old. His calligraphy work has been exhibited in Japan International Youth Art Festival in 1988, Henan Province Art Centre (China) in 1999, Henan Province Museum (China) in 2000, China Printing Museum in 2003. He created and designed the Interactive CD-Rom “The Elegance of Chinese Calligraphy” published by the Elephant Press (China) in 2004. Chi enjoys sharing his own knowledge and experience about calligraphy art with his students.
Through his weekly classes for beginners and improvers and occasional workshops at the Confucius Institute Zhang Chi reveals the art and ethos of calligraphy and brush painting to a wide audience.
